Congrats Cynthia Vincent on Twelfth Street's 10th Anniversary!
Los Angeles designer Cynthia Vincent celebrated 10 years of her fashion label Twelfth Street on Wednesday night, with a dinner at Goldie's on West Third Street.
The brand is known
for its boho spirit -- tribal print maxi dresses and rompers,
serape-stripe cardigans, rugged short western boots and gladiator wedge
sandals, all with a multi-culti, beach-and-canyon vibe.
The evening's hosts were fashion author Melissa Magsaysay, stylist Jessica De Ruiter and Rochelle Gores Fredston, a consultant for the Gores Group, and founder of the Philanthropic Society Los Angeles.
Decades co-owner Cameron Silver was there, still high from Tuesday night's launch of his collection of punk and 1980s-inspired shoes for Nine West. Silver was playing the part of a wild one, in a wonderful-looking, vintage Stephen Sprouse Marlon Brando biker jacket.
I also caught up with styling duo Emily Current and Meritt Elliott. Founders of the Current Elliott clothing label, the two recently made their first foray into home, designing a collection for Pottery Barn Teen that's so cute, adults like it, too. Current and Elliott are hard at work on a book for Rizzoli about their life in denim and highlights of their celebrity styling career. The book is due in February.
But the woman of the night was Vincent, a pioneer in helping to lay the groundwork for the stylish group around her, and the vibrant L.A. fashion scene as we now know it.
Vincent attended L.A.'s Otis Art Institute of Parsons School of Design, winning the Silver Thimble Award while she was there. In 1993, she started her first line, St. Vincent. She also opened a retail store, Aero & Co. in Los Feliz, to feature local independent designers, and co-founded a group called the Coalition of Los Angeles Designers to try to increase visibility for L.A. fashion.
By 2001, Vincent had moved on to become the founding designer of the successful contemporary label Vince. And in 2003, she started Twelfth Street.
