Bomb Scare Prank Briefly Snarls Traffic at Majors Market

From the California Apparel News:
A bomb scare on Los Angeles street slowed traffic around theCalifornia Market Center this morning as police blocked off three streets surrounding the building.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the scare started at 8:06 a.m., when a citizen called and said there was a suspicious package on the corner of Olympic Boulevard and Main Street. The area was declared safe 10:20 a.m.
We’re still waiting for confirmation on the details, but the word on the street is it was a prank and the two perpetrators were soon caught by police. We hear—again, unconfirmed—that there were two suspicious packages found on Los Angeles street, drawing police, the fire department and the bomb square to the heart of the Los Angeles Fashion District. Although traffic slowed to a crawl around the building, the scene inside was calm, if subdued as buyers in town for Majors Market grabbed coffee and headed to the showrooms upstairs. “It slowed down traffic for 35 minutes,” said David Lapidos, vice-president of the Offprice Show, which is concurrently hosting A Taste of Offprice in the CMC’s Exhibition Hall. “But so many entrances to the building were open that the slowdown was not so bad.” —Andrew Asch and Alison A.
